Tips for Buying a Treadmill Online

Buying a treadmill online can be tricky because there is such a wide range available to choose from. What makes it even more difficult is that you can’t actually see and inspect the machines. You have to base your judgment on mere pictures and descriptions. Before you begin shopping for a treadmill online, there are some important things to consider:

Frequency of Use

One thing to consider is how often you will be using your machine. If you will not be using it on a regular basis, you may be able to choose a less expensive one. If you are going to use it regularly, or if other people in your household will be using it, then its better to get one that may be more expensive but will also be more durable.

Desired Features

Deciding in advance what features you want your treadmill to have will also make it easier when choosing your machine. Many come with heart rate monitors, calorie counters, distance counters, etc. They also offer different amounts of fitness programs and speed levels. You can save money by buying a machine that doesn’t have excess features that you won’t use. Features that should come with the machine that you purchase include:

An emergency shut off switch, so you can stop the machine immediately if necessary.

* Handrails to provide safety and balance.

* A cushioned belt for extra shock absorption to help prevent injuries.

* A safety lock, to keep young children safe by not allowing them to turn on the machine.

* A warranty with a minimum length of 1 year - Make sure it covers as many parts as possible and also make sure that there is a local shop that can make the repairs.

Motors

When shopping online, you need to determine if the type of motor being used, whether it is DC or AC. An AC motor may be nosier and because it uses more power, may need its own power line. A less expensive option is a manual motor. They last longer but since it is powered by the user, the pace may not be steady. As the user slows, so will the machine.

Horsepower

Determine whether the horsepower being described is peak duty or continuous duty. Don’t be fooled by peak duty descriptions. This indicates the maximum amount of horsepower the machine is capable of, but that does not mean it can continue at the power level for any length of time. Continuous duty will indicate the amount of energy used at a continuous pace.

Belts

It’s important to get a wide belt so you have plenty of space on either side of your of you when you are running or walking. People tend to move from side to side, so the extra space will come in handy. The length of the belt is also important because of the length of the stride of the user

Incline

Also consider the incline, which can range between 2 – 15%. People in very fit condition may want the higher range of incline but the average person will do fine with a midrange one. You should get one that will do at least a 10% incline.
